Fish Feed is the most expensive part of breeding fish, The good new is Carp in perfect conditions can have a conversion ration of 1.1 to one what that means is if you feed a Koi carp 100 grams of food the Koi should put on 110grams in weight. this is bceause the food is dry when it soaks up water it becomes heavier. Commercial fish food normal costs around 60p per kilo, we dont use this fancy Koi food because there is no need when thay are growing.

The first stage of the Koi Frys life is spent absorbing its own Yolk Sac. After this the fish is fed on artemia or brine shrimp. When they have got through these two weeks they start eating crushed hi protein food. As soon as the Koi start to eat a 1mm pellet this is when the easy bit begins. As soon as the fish are eating that size pellet they grow so quickly, it is amazing to watch. When feeding fish like this its not a case of throwing food in once per day. The koi need food on demand. We use clockwork belt feeders for this. These are great for slowly feeding the fish so they have food for the full 12 hours of the day.

CarpCo Crumble Excellent (Crumble for cold water cyprinid larvae) is specially formulated for the first stages of koi and other cold water ornamental fish.
