Building a small scale koi farm is amazingly simple compared to most RAS systems. A koi farm is basically a Koi Pond with less water and more fish, We hold 10000 2" Koi in one 2 Meter tank. All this is described in the Koi Book. We started with an Old water tank from most houses. a small filter, a air blower, some matting, and a very small pump. This system is what we used to get the koi fry to 3 weeks old. We then bought a Fish tank from ebay, set this up in the garage and transfered the koi fry into the tank, the only problem we had at this stage was that we had not graded the koi so we had some that had hit 2" already and some that still looked a day old. We endevoured to grade the baby koi which took along time, in the end we made a grader from round pieces of wood. The whole Koi farm to start with Cost about £150 from that Koi Hatchery system we sold a few few and made about £3k. With this money we bought a better system for the hatchery.
