Fish Spawning

There are various ways that fish spawn dependant on what type of fish you want to spawn. Here are some examples below.

Live Bearers - Fish Fry are born Live they are not hatched out of a Fish Egg
These fish dont spawn as such they give birth to fully developed free swimming fry(young fish).
The gestation period is usually around a 4 weeks until the fish give brith to live fish fry. Most Fish Fry are born and have to fend for themselves straight away especially because there parents will eat them as soon as they are born( Talk about a rough start). Live Fry Will accept many types of food normaly live food like Artemia, Brine Shrimp. For the fish fry to be fed thr brine shrimp must be hatched carefully and if possible decapsulate it whick means, get rid of the shell, there is more information on Decapsulating Brine shrimp in the Fish Breeding Bible. This group includes Mollies, Guppies, Swordtails and Platies among others.

Egglayers - Fry are hatched from eggs.

Egg Scatterers - These Fish Lay their eggs indiscriminately around the tank, they give no care as to where the fish eggs drop their main concern is to hunt them down to eat them.Fish Fry usually hatch within 1 day, but don't become free swimming fry for another 2 - 3 days, this makes the fish fry very vunerable to getting eaten by their parents as well as other fish. Fish Fry will need the tiniest of live foods to get off to a good start. Brine Shrimp is still one of the best for less deformaties in the baby fish. The fish that use this Spawning method are Danios, Barbs, and some Tetras.

Egg Hangers - These fish lay their slightly adhesive eggs attached to plant leaves, roots, bog wood, and/or other similar items found in the water, including the sides of the tank in an aquarium or fish pond. The temperature and environmental conditions ahve to be acceptable for the fish to spawn and for the fish fry to hatch, and average female koi Carp that weights one kilo will spawn over 200000 fish eggs This group includes Koi Carp, Goldfish, Plant Spawning Killifish, some Tetras and Rasboras, Pencil Fish, most Corydoras catfish, White Clouds and Rainbow Fish, tench, roach, bream, perch and some catfish.

There are many other ways to let fish spawn but by far the best way is artificially spawning. You are obviously reading this because you are interested in breeding koi for pleasure of for profit. I first started breeding koi by accident, I was an avid koi keeper and used to buy Koi Carp most weekends as small fish then let them grow each year, one year we had a particulary hot summer and one of my favorite chargoi female koi became egg bound, So after much reserch and not finding anything i needed to know, my fish farmer friend came round and injected the fish with hormones which then made her spawn about six hours later, We then used a male and hew presto after looking after the fish eggs we ended up with thousands and thousands of koi fry. After about three months i had lost about 50% of the koi fry because i didnt really know what i was doing, but i still ended up with just over 3000 koi carp, that i didnt know what to do with. I marketed them in various places and sold them at 2-3" and made over £3000 in the space of six weeks, I really couldnt believe it. This is when i started doing the numbers, I setup a very basic fish hatchery in my garage out of fish tanks from ebay and old pipe. The most expensive was paying my friend to show me how to breed fish this cost me over £500 just for the advise, the internet doesnt give all the measurment of hormone as well as looking after the koi fry. I slowly learnt the art of the koi breeder, all this information is in my book, The Koi book will tell you everything you need to know on breeding koi, goldfish, tench, perch, as well as many others. Last year after successfully breeding koi for 3 years i built a £50000 Fish Koi hatchery and tripled my turnover to over £200000, The people that have bought this book are from all over the world and they are successfully breeding and selling koi, i am only selling 1000 books worldwide when they are gone they are gone, i dont want to much competition!!!.
